Leech Lake and the surrounding lakes offer an abundance of Northern Pike, Walleye, Jumbo Perch, Bass, Slab Crappies, Blue Gills and an array of Pan fish. Ice Fishing: You’ll discover the allure of ice fishing, whether in a house or on the ice. Ice fishers yearn to hook the legendary jumbo perch on Leech Lake.
Sailing: Plenty of open water and many bays make our northern Minnesota lakes perfect for crafts of any size. The Leech Lake Sailing Regatta is held every August.
Golf: There are four golf courses near-by that offer everything from nine-hole par 3′s to challenging full-length courses. You just might find that signature hole that is unforgettable. Most open early in the spring and remain open into autumn’s colorful leaf season.
Biking, Hiking, Cycling, In-Line Skating, Walking: The Heartland Trail stretches from Walker to Park Rapids. The Paul Bunyan Trail takes visitors from Walker to Brainerd. These are paved trails in a system that are one of the finest in the nation…and Walker, MN and the Leech Lake Area are at its heart.
Minnesota State Parks: The Leech Lake area lays claim to impressive parks, protected lands and recreation areas. To the East find Itasca State Park, where you can walk across the mighty Mississippi River at its source. To the Northeast, you’ll find Chippewa National Forest, with its large population of nesting bald eagles.
Hunting: The autumn months draw hunters in search of deer, duck and grouse.
Snowmobiling: The famous Heartland and Paul Bunyan Trails boast hundreds of miles of groomed Minnesota snowmobile trails along with frozen lakes for the avid snowmobiler.
Trails : The Minnesota Northwood’s is a hikers delight. You can hike through the big woods, stroll down a backwoods lane, or even walk around a lake.
ATV/Snowmobile Trails: Three trail systems intersect in the Walker/Longville area – Heartland, Paul Bunyan and Soo Line State Trail boasting hundreds of miles of recreation!
